Product Description
Flaked Almonds
Flaked almonds are thin, flat slices of almond, used to top bakes, cereals and curries and to add a light crunch to everyday dishes. They have a mild, slightly sweet, nutty taste. Their wide, thin shape means they cover a dish evenly and turn golden quickly.
Taste and Texture of Flaked Almonds
Flaked almonds are soft and pale when they come out of the pack, and they crisp up with gentle heat. Their thin slices give a delicate crunch, not the hard bite of a whole almond. That makes them pleasant to scatter over soft foods like porridge, yoghurt and rice pudding.
Ways to Use Flaked Almonds
Flaked almonds work as both a topping and an ingredient. Home cooks often use them in these ways:
- On top of a Bakewell tart, frangipane or an almond cake before baking
- Stirred into granola, muesli and flapjacks
- Sprinkled over a chicken or vegetable korma, or a biryani, as a garnish
- Toasted and tossed through green beans, salads and rice pilaf
- Pan-fried in butter and spooned over fish, as in trout almondine
- Scattered on biscuits, sticky buns and Christmas stollen
How to Toast Flaked Almonds
The best way to toast flaked almonds is in a dry frying pan over a medium heat. Stir them often and they should turn light golden in about two to three minutes. Tip them onto a plate straight away, because the thin slices keep browning in a hot pan and can burn within seconds.
In the oven, spread them on a tray and check them every minute or so. Toasting brings out a deeper, sweeter nutty flavour and makes the slices crunchier.
Flaked, Ground or Whole Almonds?
Flaked almonds suit toppings and garnishes, while ground almonds suit cakes and sauces. Because the slices are thin, flaked almonds toast much faster than whole almonds and look neater on a finished dish. They will not blend into a smooth paste or replace ground almonds in a sponge. If you need a coarse crumb, you can pulse them briefly in a food processor.
Flaked Almonds FAQ
Do flaked almonds need to be toasted?
No, you can eat flaked almonds as they are. Toasting is optional, but it adds colour and a stronger flavour, so many cooks do it for garnishes and salads.
Can I use flaked almonds instead of ground almonds?
Not usually, because the texture is very different. Flaked almonds stay in thin pieces, so they work as a topping or crunchy layer rather than as the base of a cake mixture.
Do flaked almonds burn easily?
Yes, they burn faster than whole nuts because the slices are so thin. Keep the heat medium, stir often and remove them from the pan as soon as they turn golden.
Add flaked almonds to your basket for your next tray of granola or Bakewell tart.

We take great care when preparing and securely packing every order; however, during transportation, parcels may be handled by several parties, including the courier, and despite our best efforts, minor cosmetic damage such as dents, marks, scuffs or damage to external packaging may occasionally occur. Minor cosmetic damage that does not affect the product’s safety, quality or intended use will not normally be considered a product defect. This is particularly applicable to products supplied in cans, tins, plastic containers, boxes or similar packaging. If you receive a product that is broken, leaking, materially damaged, unsafe, unusable or otherwise not as described, please contact us within 24 Hours of delivery by email or telephone and provide your order number, details of the issue and clear photographs of the damaged product and packaging. We may require further information or evidence to investigate the matter and, where necessary, may take up to 14 days to complete our investigation. Where damage appears to have occurred during delivery, we may need to raise a claim with the courier, and you may be required to complete and return any Damage on Receipt (DOR) form or other documentation requested by the courier before the claim can be processed. Some products we sell are price-marked or display a manufacturer’s recommended or printed retail price. Please note that our online selling prices may differ from the price printed on the product because online orders involve additional costs such as picking, packing, packaging materials, warehouse handling, payment processing, website administration and delivery-related costs. You may therefore receive a product displaying a printed or recommended retail price that is lower than the price you paid online. The price you agree to pay is the online selling price displayed on our website at the time you place your order, and the presence of a lower printed or recommended retail price on the packaging does not, by itself, mean that the online purchase price was incorrect. Product images displayed on our website are for illustration and presentation purposes only. Actual product packaging, branding, design, colour, size, shape or appearance may vary depending on availability, manufacturer, batch or packaging updates. Such variations do not necessarily indicate that the product supplied is different from the product ordered, provided that the product itself corresponds to the description and specifications stated on the website. We ask customers to check their order and products as soon as reasonably possible after delivery and contact us promptly if there is any material damage, fault, incorrect item or issue with the goods.
