Carnation Evaporated Milk

Carnation evaporated milk is milk with much of the water taken out, which makes it thicker and creamier than fresh milk. Home cooks use it in puddings, porridge, creamy sauces and milky tea.

It has a smooth, slightly rounded, cooked-milk taste. It is not sweetened like condensed milk, so it works in savoury dishes as well as desserts.

Ways to Use Evaporated Milk

Carnation evaporated milk adds body to both sweet and savoury cooking without the weight of double cream.

  • Stir it into cornmeal porridge or oat porridge for a richer bowl
  • Blend it with carrot juice for a Caribbean-style carrot punch
  • Use it in tres leches cake, leche flan and rice pudding
  • Add it to pumpkin pie, custard tarts and homemade fudge
  • Make a creamy sauce for macaroni cheese, fish pie or chowder
  • Pour it into tea or coffee instead of fresh milk
  • Loosen mashed potato with a splash for a smoother finish

How to Use Evaporated Milk in Place of Fresh Milk

Evaporated milk can be turned into a drink or a cooking milk by mixing it with water. A common rule is to use about equal parts evaporated milk and water.

For sauces and soups, you can add it as it is. It gives a thicker, creamier result and is less likely to look thin. Add it near the end of cooking and keep the heat gentle.

For a light, airy topping, chill the milk and the bowl first. Then whisk until it forms a soft foam. This works best for mousses and no-bake desserts.

Evaporated Milk FAQ

Is evaporated milk the same as condensed milk?

No, they are different products. Condensed milk is thick and very sweet, while evaporated milk is not sweetened. Do not swap one for the other in a recipe without adjusting the sugar.

Can I use evaporated milk instead of cream?

Yes, in many cooked dishes. It gives a creamy texture in soups, sauces and bakes. It is lighter than cream and will not whip stiffly like double cream.

Do I need to dilute evaporated milk?

Only if you want to use it like regular milk. For puddings, sauces and tea, many people use it undiluted for a richer taste.

Add Carnation evaporated milk to your basket ready for your next porridge, tea or tres leches cake.

We take great care when preparing and securely packing every order; however, during transportation, parcels may be handled by several parties, including the courier, and despite our best efforts, minor cosmetic damage such as dents, marks, scuffs or damage to external packaging may occasionally occur. Minor cosmetic damage that does not affect the product’s safety, quality or intended use will not normally be considered a product defect. This is particularly applicable to products supplied in cans, tins, plastic containers, boxes or similar packaging. If you receive a product that is broken, leaking, materially damaged, unsafe, unusable or otherwise not as described, please contact us within 24 Hours of delivery by email or telephone and provide your order number, details of the issue and clear photographs of the damaged product and packaging. We may require further information or evidence to investigate the matter and, where necessary, may take up to 14 days to complete our investigation. Where damage appears to have occurred during delivery, we may need to raise a claim with the courier, and you may be required to complete and return any Damage on Receipt (DOR) form or other documentation requested by the courier before the claim can be processed. Some products we sell are price-marked or display a manufacturer’s recommended or printed retail price. Please note that our online selling prices may differ from the price printed on the product because online orders involve additional costs such as picking, packing, packaging materials, warehouse handling, payment processing, website administration and delivery-related costs. You may therefore receive a product displaying a printed or recommended retail price that is lower than the price you paid online. The price you agree to pay is the online selling price displayed on our website at the time you place your order, and the presence of a lower printed or recommended retail price on the packaging does not, by itself, mean that the online purchase price was incorrect. Product images displayed on our website are for illustration and presentation purposes only. Actual product packaging, branding, design, colour, size, shape or appearance may vary depending on availability, manufacturer, batch or packaging updates. Such variations do not necessarily indicate that the product supplied is different from the product ordered, provided that the product itself corresponds to the description and specifications stated on the website. We ask customers to check their order and products as soon as reasonably possible after delivery and contact us promptly if there is any material damage, fault, incorrect item or issue with the goods.
