Demsun P55 expanding PU foam is a polyurethane foam sold in a can that is used to fill gaps, holes and cracks around the home. It comes out soft, swells as it sets and hardens into a solid, lightweight fill.

What Expanding PU Foam Is Used For

Expanding PU foam is mainly used to fill and seal gaps that are too awkward for a standard sealant. Because the foam swells, it can reach into uneven spaces and fill them from the inside.

  • Filling the gap between a window or door frame and the wall
  • Sealing around pipes and cables where they pass through walls or floors
  • Filling holes and voids in walls, lofts and under floors

How to Use Demsun P55 Expanding PU Foam

Always follow the instructions printed on the can, as they cover shaking, surface preparation and setting times for this product. A few general tips apply to most expanding foams.

  • Fill gaps only part of the way, because the foam keeps swelling as it sets.
  • Wear gloves and protect nearby surfaces, as wet foam is very sticky.
  • Work in a well-ventilated space.
  • Leave the foam to harden fully before trimming the excess with a sharp knife.

Yes, you can trim it once it has fully hardened. Use a sharp knife or saw and cut flush with the surface.

Does expanding PU foam need covering?

Yes, in most cases. Cured foam breaks down in strong sunlight, so cover any exposed areas with sealant, paint, plaster or another suitable finish.

Can I use expanding foam to fill large gaps?

Yes, but it is best to fill large gaps in layers rather than all at once. Let each layer set before adding the next, and check the can for advice.
