Product Description
Boondi (No Added Salt)
Boondi are tiny, round, crunchy balls made by frying drops of gram flour batter, and they are used mainly in raita, chaat and Indian sweets. This boondi has no added salt, so you decide how much seasoning goes into your dish.
What Boondi Tastes and Feels Like
Boondi has a light, nutty taste from the gram flour (besan). Each ball is small, golden and crisp when dry. Because this boondi has no added salt, it tastes mild and plain on its own. That suits dishes that already bring their own salt, such as yoghurt with chaat masala or black salt.
Ways to Use Boondi
Boondi works in both savoury and sweet dishes. Here are the most common ways to use it at home:
- Boondi raita, stirred into whisked yoghurt with roasted cumin and a little chilli
- Topping for papdi chaat, dahi puri and other street-style snacks
- Boondi laddu, where the boondi is soaked in sugar syrup and shaped into balls
- A crunchy sprinkle over salads, cooked rice or plain yoghurt
- An addition to homemade namkeen or snack mixes, seasoned the way you like
How to Make Boondi Raita
Boondi raita is easiest to make by soaking the boondi first. Put a small handful in a bowl of water for a few minutes until it turns soft. Squeeze out the water gently and stir the boondi into cold, whisked yoghurt.
Add ground roasted cumin, a pinch of red chilli powder and salt to taste. Many cooks add a little chaat masala or black salt as well. If you prefer some crunch, stir in dry boondi just before serving.
Boondi FAQ
Does boondi need soaking for raita?
Yes, a short soak of a few minutes softens boondi for raita. Skip the soak if you want it crunchy, and add it to the yoghurt at the last moment.
Can plain boondi be used for laddu?
Yes, plain boondi can be mixed with warm sugar syrup and shaped into laddu. Add cardamom, nuts or raisins if you like. Shape the laddu while the mixture is still warm.
Is boondi the same as sev?
No, boondi is made of small round drops, while sev is made of thin strands. Both are fried from gram flour batter and are used as toppings and in snack mixes.
Add Boondi to Your Basket
Boondi with no added salt is handy to keep in the cupboard for raita, chaat and festive sweets. Add it to your basket ready for your next bowl of raita.

Minor cosmetic damage that does not affect the product’s safety, quality or intended use will not normally be considered a product defect. This is particularly applicable to products supplied in cans, tins, plastic containers, boxes or similar packaging. If you receive a product that is broken, leaking, materially damaged, unsafe, unusable or otherwise not as described, please contact us within 24 Hours of delivery by email or telephone and provide your order number, details of the issue and clear photographs of the damaged product and packaging. Where damage appears to have occurred during delivery, we may need to raise a claim with the courier, and you may be required to complete and return any Damage on Receipt (DOR) form or other documentation requested by the courier before the claim can be processed. Some products we sell are price-marked or display a manufacturer’s recommended or printed retail price. Please note that our online selling prices may differ from the price printed on the product because online orders involve additional costs such as picking, packing, packaging materials, warehouse handling, payment processing, website administration and delivery-related costs. You may therefore receive a product displaying a printed or recommended retail price that is lower than the price you paid online. The price you agree to pay is the online selling price displayed on our website at the time you place your order, and the presence of a lower printed or recommended retail price on the packaging does not, by itself, mean that the online purchase price was incorrect. Product images displayed on our website are for illustration and presentation purposes only. Actual product packaging, branding, design, colour, size, shape or appearance may vary depending on availability, manufacturer, batch or packaging updates. Such variations do not necessarily indicate that the product supplied is different from the product ordered, provided that the product itself corresponds to the description and specifications stated on the website. We ask customers to check their order and products as soon as reasonably possible after delivery and contact us promptly if there is any material damage, fault, incorrect item or issue with the goods.
