Neem Powder

Neem powder is a fine, green-brown powder made from the neem tree, also known as Indian lilac or margosa. It is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal ingredient, and many people mix it with water or yoghurt to make home face packs and hair masks.

Neem powder is a traditional herbal ingredient and is not a medicine.

What Neem Powder Smells and Tastes Like

Neem powder has an earthy, grassy smell and a very strong bitter taste. The bitterness is the first thing most people notice. The texture is light and dusty, so it blends easily into a paste with a little liquid.

Ways to Use Neem Powder at Home

Neem powder is most often used in simple home preparations that you mix fresh each time. Here are some common ways people use it:

  • Mixed with rose water or plain water for a basic face pack
  • Stirred into yoghurt (curd) with a little honey for a softer paste
  • Blended with water or curd and used as a hair mask before washing
  • Combined with other traditional powders, such as multani mitti or turmeric, in homemade pastes

How to Mix Neem Powder into a Paste

Start with a small amount of neem powder and add liquid slowly. One teaspoon of powder with enough water or rose water to make a thick paste is a sensible place to begin.

Mix only what you need and use it straight away. Test a little on your inner arm first if you have not used neem before. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or unsure whether it suits you, check with a health professional first.

Neem Powder FAQ

Why is neem powder so bitter?

Bitterness is the natural character of the neem tree, and the powder keeps it. This is why neem is used in small amounts and mixed with gentler ingredients like yoghurt or honey.

Does neem powder stain?

Yes, it can leave a greenish tint on light cloths and towels. Use an old towel when you use it as a paste, and rinse bowls soon after mixing.

Can I mix neem powder ahead of time?

It is best to mix neem powder fresh each time. A paste made with yoghurt or water does not keep well, so make only as much as you need.

Add neem powder to your basket if you want a traditional herbal powder ready for your next home face pack or hair mask.

We take great care when preparing and securely packing every order; however, during transportation, parcels may be handled by several parties, including the courier, and despite our best efforts, minor cosmetic damage such as dents, marks, scuffs or damage to external packaging may occasionally occur. Minor cosmetic damage that does not affect the product’s safety, quality or intended use will not normally be considered a product defect. This is particularly applicable to products supplied in cans, tins, plastic containers, boxes or similar packaging. If you receive a product that is broken, leaking, materially damaged, unsafe, unusable or otherwise not as described, please contact us within 24 Hours of delivery by email or telephone and provide your order number, details of the issue and clear photographs of the damaged product and packaging. We may require further information or evidence to investigate the matter and, where necessary, may take up to 14 days to complete our investigation. Where damage appears to have occurred during delivery, we may need to raise a claim with the courier, and you may be required to complete and return any Damage on Receipt (DOR) form or other documentation requested by the courier before the claim can be processed. Some products we sell are price-marked or display a manufacturer’s recommended or printed retail price. Please note that our online selling prices may differ from the price printed on the product because online orders involve additional costs such as picking, packing, packaging materials, warehouse handling, payment processing, website administration and delivery-related costs. You may therefore receive a product displaying a printed or recommended retail price that is lower than the price you paid online. The price you agree to pay is the online selling price displayed on our website at the time you place your order, and the presence of a lower printed or recommended retail price on the packaging does not, by itself, mean that the online purchase price was incorrect. Product images displayed on our website are for illustration and presentation purposes only. Actual product packaging, branding, design, colour, size, shape or appearance may vary depending on availability, manufacturer, batch or packaging updates. Such variations do not necessarily indicate that the product supplied is different from the product ordered, provided that the product itself corresponds to the description and specifications stated on the website. We ask customers to check their order and products as soon as reasonably possible after delivery and contact us promptly if there is any material damage, fault, incorrect item or issue with the goods.
