Ready to use screenwash is a pre-mixed liquid that you pour into your car's washer fluid reservoir to clean the windscreen while you drive. It needs no dilution, so you can fill up as soon as you open the bottle.

Ready to use screenwash is made for the everyday dirt that builds up on a windscreen. This includes road spray, dust, bird droppings and squashed insects.

You press the washer control, the fluid sprays onto the glass and the wipers clear it away. Plain water often struggles with greasy road film and insect marks. A screenwash is made to deal with them.

How to Fill Your Washer Bottle

Filling the washer bottle takes less than a minute. Here is the usual way to do it:

  • Open the bonnet and find the washer reservoir. The cap usually has a windscreen symbol on it.
  • Pour the screenwash straight in. Do not add water, because it is already mixed.
  • Stop when the fluid reaches the bottom of the filler neck, so it does not spill.
  • Close the cap firmly and wipe up any drips.

Your vehicle handbook shows exactly where the reservoir is and how much it holds. Always read the label on the bottle for directions and safety advice. Keep it out of the reach of children.

No, ready to use screenwash is already mixed and goes straight into the washer reservoir. Only follow the label if it says anything different.

Can I just use water in my washer bottle?

You can use water in a pinch, but it does not lift grease or insect marks as well as screenwash. In cold weather, plain water can also freeze in the pipes.

Does the same bottle feed the rear window?

On many cars, one reservoir supplies both the front and rear washer jets. Some cars also have a headlight washer on the same system. Check your handbook to be sure.
