Turkish Delights (Lokum)

Turkish delights, also called lokum, are soft, chewy sweets cut into small cubes and often dusted with icing sugar. They are usually served with coffee or tea, or given as a gift.

Turkish delights have a gentle, springy bite that is different from a gummy sweet. They are not hard or sticky like toffee. The pieces soften as you chew and the sweetness is steady rather than sharp.

What Turkish Delights Taste Like

Turkish delights are sweet, soft and lightly perfumed. Lokum is often flavoured with rose, lemon, orange or mint. Some kinds also include pistachios or other nuts. Rose is the best-known flavour, with a floral scent that is easy to recognise.

The sugar dusting stops the cubes sticking together. It also gives each piece a soft, powdery first bite.

Ways to Serve Turkish Delights

Turkish delights suit small, slow moments as much as celebrations. Here are some common ways to enjoy them:

  • Beside a small cup of Turkish coffee or a glass of black tea
  • On a dessert or mezze-style sharing board with dried fruit and nuts
  • Arranged in a bowl or box for guests at Eid, Christmas or a dinner party
  • Chopped into rocky road, ice cream or a tray bake
  • Packed into a gift box with tea or coffee

A Simple Tip for Cutting and Serving

Turkish delights are easiest to handle with a clean, lightly oiled knife. The oil stops the soft pieces clinging to the blade. Chop them just before using, so the cut edges stay neat and soft.

If you are adding lokum to a bake, cut it into small pieces. Larger pieces melt into pockets and make the bake stick to the tin.

Turkish Delights FAQ

Is lokum the same as Turkish delight?

Yes. Lokum is the Turkish name for Turkish delight. Both names describe the same soft, chewy sweet.

What is Turkish delight traditionally made from?

Traditional Turkish delight is made from sugar and starch, with flavouring added. The full ingredients for this product are listed in the ingredients section of this page.

What do you eat Turkish delight with?

Turkish delight is most often eaten with strong coffee or hot tea. The bitterness of the drink balances the sweetness of the sweet.

Add Turkish delights to your basket for your next coffee break, sharing board or gift box.

Disclaimer

We take great care when preparing and securely packing every order; however, during transportation, parcels may be handled by several parties, including the courier, and despite our best efforts, minor cosmetic damage such as dents, marks, scuffs or damage to external packaging may occasionally occur. Minor cosmetic damage that does not affect the product’s safety, quality or intended use will not normally be considered a product defect. This is particularly applicable to products supplied in cans, tins, plastic containers, boxes or similar packaging. If you receive a product that is broken, leaking, materially damaged, unsafe, unusable or otherwise not as described, please contact us within 24 Hours of delivery by email or telephone and provide your order number, details of the issue and clear photographs of the damaged product and packaging. We may require further information or evidence to investigate the matter and, where necessary, may take up to 14 days to complete our investigation. Where damage appears to have occurred during delivery, we may need to raise a claim with the courier, and you may be required to complete and return any Damage on Receipt (DOR) form or other documentation requested by the courier before the claim can be processed. Some products we sell are price-marked or display a manufacturer’s recommended or printed retail price. Please note that our online selling prices may differ from the price printed on the product because online orders involve additional costs such as picking, packing, packaging materials, warehouse handling, payment processing, website administration and delivery-related costs. You may therefore receive a product displaying a printed or recommended retail price that is lower than the price you paid online. The price you agree to pay is the online selling price displayed on our website at the time you place your order, and the presence of a lower printed or recommended retail price on the packaging does not, by itself, mean that the online purchase price was incorrect. Product images displayed on our website are for illustration and presentation purposes only. Actual product packaging, branding, design, colour, size, shape or appearance may vary depending on availability, manufacturer, batch or packaging updates. Such variations do not necessarily indicate that the product supplied is different from the product ordered, provided that the product itself corresponds to the description and specifications stated on the website. We ask customers to check their order and products as soon as reasonably possible after delivery and contact us promptly if there is any material damage, fault, incorrect item or issue with the goods.
